Rizz means romantic charm or the ability to attract someone through confidence, conversation, humor or presence. It can also be a verb: to “rizz someone up” is to flirt successfully.
Rizz is closer to “game” than to good looks alone. “Unspoken rizz” describes attraction created through body language or presence without a rehearsed line, while “W rizz” and “L rizz” rate a successful or unsuccessful attempt.
Where Rizz came from
Streamer Kai Cenat and his circle popularized rizz through Twitch and YouTube in the early 2020s. The word is widely connected to the middle sound of charisma, although Cenat has described it as the group’s own term for romantic game. Mainstream use accelerated in 2023, when Oxford selected rizz as its Word of the Year and major dictionaries added entries.
How people use Rizz
Use rizz to describe someone’s flirting ability, not every form of leadership or persuasion. It is commonly playful and can be self-deprecating: saying “I have zero rizz” usually makes fun of an awkward social moment.
